Minimally invasive surgery has become the standard treatment for many surgical conditions. It is often considered a better option than traditional, or open, surgery, which involves a longer incision. At Kenya laparoscopic Surgery Services in partnership , our board-certified general surgeons are experts in minimally invasive surgery, offering both laparoscopic surgical techniques.
Benefits of Minimally Invasive Surgery
Minimally invasive surgery allows patients faster recovery, less pain and scarring than traditional open procedures. Patients can also expect a shorter hospital stay, reduced blood loss and less risk for infection.
Minimally Invasive Surgery Techniques
We perform minimally invasive surgery through two techniques:
- Laparoscopy – Laparoscopy, or laparoscopic surgery, is performed on organs and structures of the abdominal cavity through small incisions. A camera, or scope, is inserted through one of these small incisions while slim instruments are placed through other small incisions to carry out the surgical procedure.
- Robotic Surgery – Robotic surgery is performed using The da Vinci System, which features enhanced high-definition vision and wristed instruments that bend and rotate far more than the human hand. The surgeon performs the surgery with improved visualization and dexterity and can facilitate more complicated laparoscopic procedures. Though we call this type of surgery “robotic,” the surgeon controls every action and motion.
Our board-certified general surgeons evaluate each patients’ individual needs to determine if minimally invasive surgery is appropriate. There may be situations where laparoscopy or robotic surgery cannot be performed, and the surgery must be done with the traditional open technique.
