He has recently been appointed an Associate Professor of Obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Cape Town, South Africa where he continues to mentor Consultants and Registrars in laparoscopic surgery at various institutions including the Groot Schuur & Somerset Hospitals. Prof. Rafique Parkar also regularly trains surgeons in other African countries including Zimbabwe, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda. Prof. Rafique Parkar was the Medical Coordinator for the Round Table Week of Healing project from 1994 to 20015. this is a charitable project where a team of surgeons performs free surgical procedures on mothers and children at various hospitals twice a year which has always been a huge success. On an average between 100 to 150 operatives procedures are undertaken during each Camp.
Recently at the Bomu Hospital camp in Mombasa, a record of 479 Gynecological surgeries was performed over a period of 10 days. Prof. Rafique Parkar continues to be an inspiration for many younger surgeons in the region and has been an excellent role model.

Presidential ‘Birthday honors’ for Prof. Rafique Parkar.
On the 12th of December 2018, Prof. Rafique Parkar was bestowed the “Elder in the Second Class of The Order of the Burning Spear” by HE President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House Nairobi for his dedication, selfless and resounding efforts to encourage the uptake of Laparoscopic Surgery in Kenya and the continent of Africa as a whole.
